Watson Emma: Swinging Icon
Not just that, the kid also plays the game and shares info and thoughts on Twitter and Facebook, making Lancome a popular brand. Emma Watson makes you want to live, or even to live like she does. Even I want to wear her perfume. I heard that all across the world girls want to go to University just because that’s what Emma does. Another reason behind her impact is that she does not let herself be influenced easily. When asked “was it so easy to accept being the image of a perfume?”, she answers “I have always been very nervous at the idea of exposing myself without the protection of a role. But I watched the women who worked with Lancome before I did. They never changed anybody. They take you the way you are. So I accepted and decided to trust them. And indeed, the whole campaign, directed by Mario Testino, shows the real and beautiful Emma. I ask her why, when she trusts them, she took to do her own make up: “I prefer to do it myself rather than being what someone else imagines. I started this job very young, and I learnt that in order not to get “bitten”, you need to constantly show who you are.” That’s another reason why she tweets and speaks via her website and Facebook.
She’d rather talk about herself rather than let others do it for her. About make up, she likes to add black when the make up artist isn’t looking, plus mascara.
Since shooting the Bruberry campaign and now the Lancome one, she admits that being a model is harder than being an actress “because modeling has no real source in you”. Yet she does it very well, just like almost everything she does. She says that her strength comes from the fact that she found her place. Just think that Emma has lived most of the time away from her parents (who divorced and married elsewhere: she is the eldest of 7 children) since she was 10. Just think that she is famous and admired all accross the world. “I have dreamt for many years to meet people who don’t know who I am, to see what I’m worth without what they know about me.” Just think that in spite of everything she found a way to maintain a level of privacy: “I learnt good reflexes very early. There are three: learn from the mistakes of others (everything you shouldn’t do), never go clubbing, and immediately say no to an indiscreet question.” She successfully struggles to not be an “it girl” and spends a lot of evenings reading and working for her classes. She is starting her third year of history and English, doesn’t have much free time (with two upcoming films “My Week with Marilyn,” by Simon Curtis, and “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” by Stephen Chbosky). She rents her clothes for special occasions in order to not get hyper about it, and otherwise invests in simple items, which are not black “because it’s sad and too easy”, and often french brands “A.P.C., Isabel Marant, and often Agnès b… all those obvious pieces that you know how to create, you French people, with your soberness and your elegance. I can never seem to be able to be like a French girl, it’s like you are free in every area.”
One year ago, right after the end of her “Harry Potter” mission, she wondered what she wished to do to celebrate the end of the cycle. With no word to anyone, she goes to the hairdresser. She says “Cut it all.” Obviously, the hairdresser dares not touch Hermione’s head. She insists and he cuts. “I couldn’t do any of the usual teenage experiments, but at least there I did it. Short hair, what a victory!” What will she do later? “Someday, I mean really later, later than sooner, yes, I may start a family…” She also thinks about writing, and she paints… but she is too smart not to know that one can sound ridiculous saying these things, so she apologizes. She admires Joni Mitchell and Patti Smith. Now she has an agent, who is there and waits to take Emma where she wants to go, considering her obligations of course… Have a good trip, smart girl.
